So some of you may have heard that I was having pretty bad pelvic pain and that I thought it was from Abigail "dropping." That started at the beginning of week 33 and was really bad at first. It was excruciating to move at all. After the week went on it did get a little better throughout the day but overall it was still pretty bad. It was the worst right when I would wake up in the morning and get out of bed. It would sometimes take me several minutes just to be able to walk because after sleeping all night on my side I would be all still and sore. When I went to see my Midwife she told me that she had not dropped, but that my pelvic bone had misaligned. I had no idea this even happened during pregnancy.
Here is just a simple visual of the pelvis. You can see that in the front the bones come together and are connected by a piece of cartilage. When you're pregnant, there are hormones that are released to soften all the cartilage and ligaments in your body to allow for stretching and growing, but that is also why it is easier for the pubic bone to get misaligned.
She suggested I see a Chiropractor. My initial reaction to that was, "No I can just deal with it." I had never been to a chiropractor my whole life and the thought of it was just kind of scary and unnecessary. I have always had a great back and never had the need to go. Also, Phil "doesn't believe in chiropractors." He said he believes more in deep tissue massage, but I told him that wouldn't put a bone back in place.
So eventually I decided to give it a try. I found a Chiropractor that is connected with my Birth Center so I knew they had enough prenatal chiropractic experience. She was extremely nice, and very good at explaining everything that she was doing which made me feel comfortable. Overall I would say that the experience was good...but a little weird. I was having things done to my body that I had never even knew existed. It all kinda feels "wrong" in a way. Like how is it gonna help to be pushing and cracking like this?
Well I'm glad I went because four days after going, my pubic pain is almost gone. I was a little worried at first cause I was so sore from it all that I didn't know if it had helped at all but now that the soreness has worn off I feel better than I have in months. She also adjusted my back, neck, and cranium. I go back for a one week check up to make sure everything stayed in place and then they suggest you go once a week after 36 weeks until you deliver. I'm not sure I will end up going that much but we will see how I continue to feel.
