Yesterday's appointment was mostly devoted to talking about my diet. When you work with Midwives at a Birth Center apposed to an Obstetrician at a clinic, you're more likely to get special attention to things like diet and exercise. Part of that is because if I eat horribly and don't exercise I'm more at risk for things like pre-eclampsia which would make me not eligible to be under their care.
We talked about how I had eaten horribly on Sunday, which was the day that I had the horrendous headache and threw up. Obviously diet isn't 100% the answer or the cure, but it can sure make a difference. (All I had eaten was pizza, pop, and a Tea Garden Shake. I know...shame on me.)
So Phil and I are going to sit down and start planning meals and snacks that I can eat throughout the day and be very intentional about what we both eat. I also have low iron which I'm supposed to be taking a supplement for but on days when I'm really nauseous I tend to not take it cause it makes it worse. On those days I can start eating foods high in iron to help.
At my last appointment I weighed 146 and now I'm up to 151. We didn't really talk about my weight so I'm assuming that 5 pounds isn't too much. At this point I don't know how much I'm supposed to be gaining but I'm really not worried about it.
What I was really excited about was hearing the baby's heartbeat on the Doppler, but of course baby wasn't cooperating and we couldn't find it. This was supposed to be my 12 week visit but since we found out I was a week behind, I am only 11 weeks. I wasn't too worried that we couldn't find it since it could have been the baby's position or even the position of my uterus. So we are going back next week to try again (on our 2nd anniversary 8/7).
